Sui Achieves Record 40.6M Transactions Per Second in AI-Focused Offchain Stress Test

Cointelegraph · Nate Kostar

Sui's programmable offchain tunnels processed over 40 million transactions per second during a live test simulating high-frequency activity among AI agents, setting a new record. Peaking at 40.6 million TPS, this markedly exceeds the roughly 6.1 million TPS achieved in a similar test conducted in July. The stress test took place on Sui's mainnet in Singapore and involved more than 10,000 tunnels operating across payments, gaming, and chat applications.

Testing and Sui Offchain Tunnels Technology

On Wednesday at the Sui Basecamp event in Singapore, the programmable offchain tunnels on Sui reached a peak throughput of 40,614,180 transactions per second. These offchain tunnels process transactions outside the main blockchain and then settle them back upon closing. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened during the test, demonstrating scalable activity across various applications.

Implications for High-Frequency AI Interactions

The technology is designed to handle intense, high-frequency activity such as continuous transactions between AI agents without the need to process every single transaction on the mainchain. Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder of Mysten Labs—the original contributor to Sui—commented that no human market requires millions of TPS, but AI agents transact at that scale. CertiK acted as an independent auditor during the event and is currently reviewing the data with an audit report forthcoming.

Why it matters

This news highlights Sui's major breakthrough in blockchain transaction scalability via offchain tunnels. Achieving record throughput suggests the technology can support complex scenarios involving AI agents that require massive volumes of data exchange and rapid processing. This is significant for the future integration of AI and blockchain systems, expanding decentralized networks' capacity to operate in real-time environments.
