How we collect data and calculate Score.
This page records metric applicability, scoring formulas, sources and limitations. Missing data is not treated as zero, and different asset types are compared only on modules that apply to them.
A verified value matters more than a filled cell
- A source must be official or approved for the specific metric.
- An unknown value never becomes zero and does not automatically penalize an asset.
- A token without its own network does not inherit host-chain metrics.
- Ranks include only assets with verified, comparable values.
- Promotional yield, structured products and campaigns are kept separate from standard APY.
Scores are adjusted for data coverage
Within each module, available metrics are converted into percentiles inside an applicable cohort. The raw score is their weighted average. Incomplete coverage pulls the result towards a neutral 50:
Score = 50 + (Raw Score − 50) × CoverageCoverage ranges from 0 to 1. Scores below 66% coverage are not displayed. Coverage from 66% to 99.9% has medium confidence; complete coverage has high confidence.
The overall Score is not a price forecast or a buy/sell recommendation. It is a comparative summary of available fundamental evidence.
One metric set does not fit every asset
| Profile | Included | Excluded |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Market, investors, development, community, network usage, DeFi | Non-applicable protocol metrics |
| Protocol token | Market, investors, development, community, protocol-level metrics | Host-chain-wide metrics |
| General token | Market, investors, development, community | Network and DeFi metrics without an exact mapping |
| RStock | Instrument market, issuer, disclosure and availability | Crypto-network metrics |
Weights depend on the asset profile
| Profile | Market | Investors | Development | Community | Network | DeFi |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Network | 15% | 10% | 15% | 10% | 25% | 25% |
| Protocol token | 15% | 15% | 20% | 15% | — | 35% |
| Token / RStock | 25% | 25% | 30% | 20% | — | — |
The network module covers active addresses, transactions, network growth, fees, stablecoin supply and DEX volume. Network DeFi scoring covers TVL, TVL/market cap, 30-day TVL change, active protocols and top-three concentration. Protocol-token scoring uses TVL, TVL/market cap and 30-day TVL change.
“Unavailable” and “not applicable” are different states
A metric enters comparison only after the asset, source and measured entity are matched exactly. FLOKI, for example, does not receive Ethereum-wide fees or DEX volume merely because it is issued on Ethereum. Protocol TVL is used only when an exact DeFiLlama project identity exists.
Contradictory observations are excluded pending review. Releases alongside zero developers and zero commits, for example, cannot produce a development score. Every rank reports its actual cohort size.
Standard yield is separated from campaigns
A profile headline APY uses only a currently available standard strategy where the selected asset is actually deposited. Promotions, LP and vault strategies, Launchpool and Hold-to-Earn campaigns, and structured products are labeled separately. A promotional rate never becomes standard yield without its conditions and validity period.
Where the data comes from
Refresh cadence depends on the metric and source limits. Current collector health and the last successful update are available through the header status indicator.
What to keep in mind
Sources may publish with a delay, change APIs or revise history. APY, TVL, prices and market metrics move after the observation time. A public audit applies only to the contracts, version and scope it names and does not guarantee project-wide security.
