VeChain CEO Predicts AI Agents Will Spark Next Blockchain Adoption Wave

Cointelegraph · Zoltan Vardai

Sunny Lu, co-founder and CEO of VeChain, believes AI agents could trigger the next surge in blockchain adoption by driving demand for systems that verify their identities and reputations.

Autonomous AI agents working nonstop will necessitate a new system of accountability to earn public trust, Lu explained during the Chain Reaction show on Cointelegraph.

He emphasized that blockchain technology offers the ideal solution for this challenge.

Lu shared these insights while presenting VeWorld.ai, a platform built to create AI agents leveraging the VeChain blockchain.

In Lu’s vision, these agents would carry digital “passports” and function within a decentralized reputation system that monitors both the agents’ and their creators’ credibility. Smart contracts could facilitate transaction settlements involving agents and humans alike.

VeChain is also advancing blockchain adoption through supply chain transparency initiatives, including projects focused on food traceability.

AI agents have the potential to assist individuals in monetizing their expertise by enabling non-developers to build software solutions, Lu noted.

He likened this to mobile app stores, which empowered developers to distribute and profit from their creations. Agent-building tools could similarly open opportunities for those with specialized knowledge, local insights, or hobbies unrelated to programming.

In his personal trials, Lu has employed an educational agent for his daughter, an assistant agent supporting his mother’s daily routine and recovery, and a virtual employee managing procurement, inventory, sales, and operations for a friend’s store in Milan.

However, other industry voices caution about trust issues related to agent providers.

For instance, in October, Yat Siu, chairman of Animoca Brands, told Cointelegraph that while crypto traders can deploy AI agents continuously, they risk relying on services outside their control when developing trading strategies.

Sunny Lu’s perspective highlights how AI agents could become key drivers in expanding blockchain’s role by creating new trust frameworks and business models, potentially transforming how expertise is monetized and how autonomous agents interact in digital economies.

The emerging integration of AI agents and blockchain technology represents a significant development that could reshape accountability and enable wider participation in software creation beyond traditional developers.

Why it matters

The integration of AI agents with blockchain systems could revolutionize digital trust and monetization, fostering broader blockchain adoption and enabling individuals to leverage expertise in new, software-driven ways.
