S&P Dow Jones Indices Partners with Kalshi to Launch Event-Based Financial Contracts and Completes OpenZeppelin Acquisition

Cointelegraph · Nate Kostar

S&P Dow Jones Indices has formed a partnership with prediction market platform Kalshi. This collaboration will enable S&P DJI to offer event-based contracts linked to the company's financial benchmark indices, expanding the exchange's product offerings.

Kalshi will be the preferred platform for contracts tied to S&P DJI indices, with settlements based on the official index values published by S&P DJI, according to the Monday announcement.

S&P Dow Jones Indices is also exploring the development of new indices that would utilize predictive market data from Kalshi. These indices might provide insights on expectations related to economic events, political outcomes, and sports results by leveraging prices of event contracts on Kalshi to gauge market anticipations of future events, rather than tracking traditional asset performance.

Neither company provided a timeline for launching these initiatives. Attempts to obtain additional information from S&P DJI were not immediately successful.

This partnership follows a broader trend of traditional financial market operators entering the prediction markets space. Notably, in October 2025, Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, committed up to $2 billion to Polymarket, another prediction market platform.

Earlier in the year, Nasdaq filed to offer prediction-market style contracts linked to the Nasdaq 100 Index and subsequently partnered with Kalshi in August to enhance its market surveillance technology.

Separately, S&P Global, the parent company of S&P Dow Jones Indices, announced on Monday that it has completed its acquisition of blockchain security company OpenZeppelin, marking an expansion of its digital asset risk assessment capabilities. The acquisition, first announced in September, was completed without disclosed financial terms.

OpenZeppelin specializes in smart contract security audits and development tools. Its open-source libraries currently support over $38 trillion in transaction value, and its security team has conducted more than 900 projects, according to S&P Global.

The company will continue to operate as an independent business unit under founder Demian Brener, who will report to Yann Le Pallec, president of S&P Global Ratings.

In addition to smart contract security, S&P Global has broadened its scope in digital asset risk evaluation. Earlier this month, S&P Global Ratings introduced a framework to assess crypto lending vaults across six risk categories including blockchain security, liquidity, and governance.

The partnership with Kalshi and the OpenZeppelin acquisition signify S&P's commitment to innovating financial products and enhancing risk assessment tools in the evolving landscape of digital assets and predictive markets. This positions S&P to better serve market participants seeking insights into event-driven market expectations and blockchain-related risks.

Together, these initiatives reflect a strategic expansion of traditional financial benchmarks into predictive analytics and advanced digital asset security, underscoring the growing importance of integrating emerging technologies and data sources into market infrastructure.

Why it matters

This partnership and acquisition are significant as they combine predictive market data with established financial benchmarks and expand digital asset risk assessment, reflecting a shift in how traditional financial institutions approach market expectations and blockchain security.
