Ripple and Robinhood Deepen Collaboration to Boost RLUSD Adoption Across Retail and Institutional Markets

Cointelegraph · Nate Kostar

Ripple and Robinhood have extended their partnership to introduce the RLUSD stablecoin to both their retail and institutional operations. This expansion also includes new integrations covering treasury management, lending, and trading solutions.

The RLUSD stablecoin is already accessible on Robinhood Chain as well as Bitstamp by Robinhood. According to a Tuesday announcement coinciding with Ripple’s Swell 2026 event in New York, the stablecoin’s launch within the Robinhood app is set for later this year. Additionally, Robinhood plans to leverage RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlements.

Robinhood will implement Ripple Treasury to oversee its global cash handling and liquidity operations. This system will manage payment processing, cash flow forecasting, and intercompany transactions. By doing so, the partnership extends beyond end-user services into Robinhood’s internal financial infrastructure.

The collaboration further strengthens Robinhood’s existing relationship with Ripple Prime, which supports financing for Bitstamp by Robinhood. There are plans to roll out perpetual futures trading on the Bitstamp exchange later this year.

Launched in December 2024, RLUSD has reached a market capitalization of $2.57 billion. Of that, nearly $1 billion worth has been issued on the XRP Ledger, based on DeFiLlama data. By August, Robinhood had 28.6 million funded customers worldwide, suggesting a significant opportunity to increase stablecoin adoption.

On the custody and trade finance front, Ripple expanded its partnership with financial powerhouse BNY Mellon. The bank now provides custody services for XRP and RLUSD through its Digital Asset Custody platform. The companies aim to enable BNY clients to mint and redeem RLUSD directly through the bank, while also extending support for tokenized assets issued on the XRP Ledger.

In a separate move, Ripple teamed up with working-capital platform C2FO to integrate RLUSD into its new Instant Pay service on the XRP Ledger. This service allows suppliers to receive payments against approved invoices in seconds instead of waiting days as with traditional banking settlements.

A C2FO spokesperson shared with Cointelegraph that Instant Pay is currently undergoing testing with a controlled rollout. The first RLUSD transactions on the XRP Ledger are expected by year-end.

These announcements followed Ripple’s receipt of final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national trust bank. This new bank will manage the reserves backing RLUSD and offer digital asset custody services, while issuance of the stablecoin will remain under Ripple’s New York-regulated subsidiary.

Ripple’s expanded partnership with Robinhood and financial institutions like BNY Mellon signifies growing institutional trust and utility for the RLUSD stablecoin. This integration across retail, institutional, custody, and payment platforms could accelerate mainstream adoption of digital assets in everyday financial operations.

The deepening collaboration highlights the importance of scalable, secure stablecoins and integrated treasury solutions for both customer-facing and internal financial systems, marking a pivotal step toward broader tokenization of assets and real-time digital settlements.

Why it matters

The integration of RLUSD into Robinhood’s ecosystem and partnerships with major financial players like BNY Mellon amplify the potential for stablecoins to become foundational tools in both retail and institutional finance, enhancing liquidity, efficiency, and access to digital assets.
