Luxor Technology Secures $16 Million to Expand AI and Bitcoin Mining Operations

Cointelegraph · Zoltan Vardai

Luxor Technology, a comprehensive computing company, has completed a strategic funding round, raising $16 million with CMT Digital as the lead investor.

The company revealed that the $16 million investment will be applied toward advancing its AI and Bitcoin mining ventures.

Additional participants in this investment round included industry players such as Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead, along with several angel investors, according to an announcement disclosed on Tuesday and shared with Cointelegraph.

Luxor intends to allocate the newly raised funds to enhance its agentic cloud platform, broaden its AI hardware division, develop its compute derivatives trading capabilities, and increase its workforce.

Known for servicing Bitcoin miners like Canaan and TeraWulf, Luxor has expanded its hardware offerings to supply GPUs and AI servers to the AI compute market amidst increasingly complex global chip supply chains. The funding round will support scaling its current AI infrastructure business and exploit opportunities arising from the merging of Bitcoin miners and AI companies within compute markets.

Co-founder and CEO Nick Hansen remarked, “Compute markets are converging: the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now powering AI.”

In September, Luxor unveiled Luxor AI, a new business segment leveraging its existing hardware, software, and compute trading systems originally developed for Bitcoin mining, now targeting AI and high-performance computing sectors.

Previously, in June 2021, Luxor secured $5 million through a Series A round led by institutional Bitcoin technology and financial services firm NYDIG to expand its BTC mining services across North America. Early seed investors comprised Celsius, Valour, and Bitnomial, according to startup tracking platform Tracxn.

Why it matters

This significant investment underscores Luxor's strategic positioning at the intersection of Bitcoin mining and AI computing, reflecting the broader trend of converging compute markets and highlighting potential growth opportunities in both sectors.
