DTCC Unveils Tokenization Service to Streamline Securities Trading

The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a branch of The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), has initiated a new tokenization service that enables eligible users to create digital token versions of securities held within DTC.
Clients of DTCC are now authorized to use the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS), which facilitates the conversion of traditional securities into tokenized forms and vice versa. These tokens can be moved to digital wallets while maintaining the same ownership rights and investor safeguards as their traditional counterparts, according to the company’s announcement on Wednesday.
The post-trade infrastructure provider revealed that 20 of its clients have entered agreements to utilize the new service. Notable participants include Alpaca, Citadel Securities, Citi, Clear Street, DriveWealth, Fidelity Investments, Interchange Clearing, and JPMorgan.
DTC manages assets exceeding $114 trillion, covering stocks and exchange-traded funds. The company emphasized that this new service will provide a viable route for widespread adoption of tokenized securities.
In December 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a “no action” letter, indicating it would refrain from enforcement actions against DTCC’s subsidiary related to its proposed tokenization program.
Earlier in May, DTCC announced plans to roll out full-scale trading of tokenized securities in October 2026, following a pilot program scheduled for July 2026.
Currently, the tokenization service operates in conjunction with the Canton Network and DTCC’s Besu private blockchain network. There are also plans to integrate additional blockchain networks in 2027.
DTCC’s tokenization initiative establishes a crucial infrastructure step towards embracing digital securities, potentially transforming the way securities are traded and held.
