Binance Seeks License to Sustain Operations in Brazil's Crypto Market

Cointelegraph · Helen Partz

Binance has submitted a formal application to become a licensed crypto service provider in Brazil, aiming to keep its presence in one of Latin America's key crypto markets ahead of the regulatory deadline set for Friday, October 30.

The exchange filed its license application with Brazil's Central Bank on Friday, October 23, through its local affiliate BBrasil, according to an official statement provided to Cointelegraph.

Binance indicated that the submission of this application would enable Brazilian users to maintain access to cryptocurrency assets, stablecoin trading, payment options, and investment services.

In addition to the application, Binance announced a series of changes impacting Brazilian customers, effective Tuesday. These include restrictions on crypto loans, margin trading, and other related services. Furthermore, the exchange is removing 22 crypto assets from its Brazilian listings.

Thiago Sarandy, Binance's country general manager, stated, 'We support a regulated market that acknowledges the unique aspects of virtual assets, ensuring that access to technology and innovation continues to progress. We also hope that ongoing dialogue with the Central Bank will soon allow us to offer additional products previously paused to comply with current regulations.'

Brazil mandates that existing cryptocurrency service providers apply for authorization by October 30 to remain operational under transitional guidelines. However, submitting the application does not guarantee regulatory approval.
